MEC Sprint Weekend 2011 Regs (127)

The Saturday hill is the same route as last year, beside the village of Naul. It is a technical hill consisting of a number of junctions, sweeping corners and steep gradient in parts. The paddock is located in a field that is smooth enough to facilitate the single seaters as well as saloon cars. The prizegiving on Saturday evening is in Naul village. This year we will be accommodated in the Seamus Ennis Centre Theatre for the prizegiving followed by the 2 course meal, which is priced at €17 per head. Killians pub across the road will also be a gathering place, no doubt.

There is overnight parking for campervans on both Friday and Saturday nights in a field in the middle of Naul village  It is up the little road beside Killians pub. This is just opposite the prizegiving and dinner location, so not too far to walk!

The Sunday event is based at White River Karting track (www.whiteriver.ie) which is approximately 20miles away but well worth the journey. The journey is up the M1 to exit 12 northbound, turn left and travel approx 4 miles until you see the track on right hand side.  The track is built to a high standard and follows the contours of the valley where it is built. There are uphill and downhill sections with a course length of about 1200m. Although the track is 8 meters wide, it is quite twisty so it might suit the smaller, more nimble cars better. We could have John Byrne and Joe Courtney fighting for the honours instead of McKinley having it all his own way. There is ample paddock space. The track building overlooks the whole circuit and there is a viewing area upstairs. Prizegiving will be held in this building. Look forward to seeing you there!

Do your bit for Road safety

Following the launch of the Motorsport Ireland road safety initiative “Keep the race in its place” All competitors should have been issued with 2 road safety “Keep the race in its place” decals.

President of Motorsport Ireland, Joe Corcoran, urged all competitors to display the logo – which will be provided by post – on both sides of their competition vehicles throughout the year ahead.

Alex Sinclair, Chief Executive of Motorsport Ireland, said; “We know that in Ireland young people, and especially young males, are much more likely to be killed on the roads. We also know that motorsport is hugely popular, with fans turning out in their tens of thousands to support our national and international events. Motorsport Ireland is committed to promoting road safety and this initiative will contribute to both the national and global campaigns to save lives on our roads.”

“All participants in motorsport across Ireland will now display the Road Safety Tag as a visual message to all those watching our sport to keep the race in its place. Every Motor Club across the country will be appointing a Road Safety Officer to coordinate activity to support this campaign in their community, while we will also be rolling out signage that will be visible at all our events across the country to keep the message in the front of everyone’s mind.”

We would ask you all to display these decals and if you do not have any please contact your motor club to obtain some or alternatively Motorsport Ireland. There will be some available at the forthcoming MEC event.
